Homeopathy and the Zika virus

Homeopathy is not a cure for the Zika virus but it can offer relief for the symptoms the virus may cause.

Only one in five people will show signs of the illness when they are infected with the Zika virus. These symptoms and their severity vary from person to person. This makes homeopathy—where “like cures like” and treatment is matched to the individual—an excellent remedy. Homeopathy can treat conjunctivitis, extreme tiredness, fever, headache,  joint pain, muscle pain, rash, and weakness, all of which may signal a Zika virus infection.

If you are already ill
• Boost your immune system with vitamin C, selenium, and zinc
• Drink plenty of water—stay well hydrated
• Get your rest, just as if you had the flu
• Talk to your homeopath about your symptoms and a remedy, which may include
- Bryonia alba for body aches, better with pressure, worse with movement
- Eupatorium perfoliatum for deep pain, almost like in the bones
- Polyporus pinicola for itching and rash, with inflamed tonsils and neuralgia
- Rhus tox for muscle and joint stiffness, aches and pains, better with motion
- Staphysagria for skin rash with burning sensation, with urinary symptoms

To protect yourself from any mosquito-borne disease including the Zika virus
• Avoid spending time outside when mosquitoes are most active—particularly at dusk
• Hang a mosquito net over your bed
• Keep screen doors and window screens in good repair and then use them to keep the outdoor pests out
• Know the risks when/where you travel
• Remove sources of standing water on your property or be proactive—empty and refill your bird bath daily, add mosquito-eating fish to your water features, cover rain barrels
• Take a small dose of a homeopathic remedy before spending time outdoors to minimize your desirability to pests—unlike mosquito repellant, this option is safe for adults, children, and pets; free of harmful chemicals; and odor-free
• Use a non-DDT repellent like Repel
• Wear clothing that covers as much of your skin as possible

If you think you have contracted the Zika virus, consult with your homeopath to find the right treatment for your symptoms.
